NEW WILD STEELHEAD PROTECTIONs ON THE OLYMPIC PENINSULA

Members of the Washington Department of Fish an Wildlife overwhelmingly approved measures to protect the OP's dwindling wild steelhead populations. The new protections include a zero-harvest mandate for wild rainbow and steelhead in 10 OP rivers, a ban on barbed hooks, limits on bait fishing, and restrictions on fishing from a watercraft. The new regulations will help keep the Peninsula on every steelhead anglers' bucket list. 

Catch and Release Impact Prompts Puget Sound Chinook Closure

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife closed the central Puget Sound chinook salmon season early due to concern that improper catch and release techniques were harming the run, the Associated Press reports. The season was originally scheduled to close January 31st. Talk about one giant reason to handle fish with respect!
